The majority of us tend to have a lot on our plates on a day to day basis. We have a lot of responsibility to keep up with. It’s not all too surprising that many of us begin to put our individual, basic needs on the back burner as we attempt to hit deadlines, keep schedules on track and tick everything off our to-do lists. But it really is important that you take steps to protect yourself and your wellbeing too! Here are some tips that can help you to achieve this!

Avoid Burnout

Burnout is real and it can be really difficult to deal with and overcome when it arrives. But so many of us push ourselves to this state without even realising it. When you burn out, you simply don’t have the energy and capacity left to deal with all of the issues that life is throwing at you. You may feel tired, overwhelmed, down or a host of other emotions. Avoid this in the first place by coming up with a manageable routine, setting boundaries and learning to say no to things that are impossible or will prove too much for you. This could be in regards to work, family, friends or any other commitment. Take time to rest and recuperate between all of your different tasks.


As we briefly touched on above, rest is important. This gives your body and mind time to unwind and recover. Make sure that you’re getting your recommended eight hours of sleep a day, regardless of what may be expected of you. Avoid procrastinating before bed. Set a bedtime and stick to it. This will make a big difference in the long run.

Check In On Your Health

Make sure to keep up to date with routine health checkups. These are important, but something that many of us skip or brush under the carpet unless we’re experiencing specific health concerns that can’t be ignored. But health checks give health professionals to see warning or early signs of issues that need to be resolved, allowing them to provide treatment before things worsen. Visit your dentist, optician and undergo other routine checks such as cervical screening or prostate examination if and when required.
