We all have a clothing budget to add a few extra things to the wardrobe from month to month. However, if you’ve found that your budget only covers a couple new shirts these days, you’re probably getting sick of seeing the same 3 or 4 outfits in rotation! But with only a few pennies left in the jar, you don’t have much choice when it comes to your style – or do you? Well, check out our tips down below for making your clothing budget go a bit further.
Calculate Your Budget Accurately
It involves a bit of math but it can be done! You just need to take what you bring home in income each month (after taxes), and then work out what 5% of that whole number is. If you’re not sure how to find that, just find 10% by dividing by 10 and then halve the result.
Even if you’re not going to be strict on the budget you should use, you can use the final number as a guiding point to find out how much of your money is going on clothing. This is handy for allocating more cash towards any other bills.
Shop Secondhand
It’s easier than ever to find something nice on a secondhand basis, thanks to just how much we’re trying to reduce fast fashion trends right now. From thrifting in physical stores (which is always fun!) to shopping online, there are a lot of secondhand platforms available.
But if you’d rather spend money on travel, just download some apps straight to your phone that allow you to shop for preloved clothes that need a new home; Vinted is one of the most popular right now, and the prices listed can be very healthy for even the smallest of budgets.
Buy Versatile Pieces
The more versatile your wardrobe, the more you can wear your clothes in stylish ways. The next time you go shopping for a new fit, keep this in mind. Items like a women’s tunic top that can act both as a shirt and dress would be a good purchase. Similarly, buying skirts that can be paired with blouses for work and chic tops for nights out will also be a good use of money.
Don’t Get Caught Out By Sales
Sales get us in a frenzy, even if you think they don’t work on you! A sale is a limited time event that makes us feel pushed to buy something while we’ve got the chance, and that pressure gets to us all.
But when you’re only buying on impulse, rather than buying out of need, you’re going to be wasting money. Instead, simply remind yourself that there’ll always be another sale soon, and if you save this month you’ll have more budget available when it finally does come.
A clothing budget can run out in quick time when you buy new and on a regular basis. So try more secondhand items and don’t fall prey to sales!
