Five Reasons To Brush Your Teeth

From the moment you got your first tooth as a baby, your parents have been brushing your teeth and have been looking after them for you.. As you grow up you start to take over and brush your teeth yourself. Oral health is about so much more than just healthy teeth, and it starts from as young as possible. If you learn how to look after your teeth and your gums from a young age, the skills can carry you throughout life. The problem is that we then become teenagers and many people become lax when it comes to personal hygiene during puberty.

Oral hygiene is one of the most important tools you can have in your arsenal if you want people to come to you! Oral hygiene is about so much more than invisible braces and about retainers to keep your teeth looking cosmetically straight. It’s about making sure that the gums don’t fill with food and bacteria, and that plaque doesn’t cover your teeth. Tartar and plaque can build up and cause irreversible damage to your teeth and gums, and the last thing that you want to have to deal with in your 20s is dentures. Below, we have five reasons that you should start making sure that you are brushing your teeth correctly.

  • You want to save money. We’re not sure who it was that decided that healthcare shouldn’t include eyeballs or teeth, because our teeth are attached to our bodies. However, this decision has meant that dental care can be some of the most expensive care you can ever give to yourself. Prevention is always cheaper than cure, and if you regularly take care of your teeth and gums every day, you will prevent any problems in the future and lower your dental bills along the way.
  • Your breath will smell nice. If you don’t look after your teeth, the bacteria buildup can cause plaque and that doesn’t smell particularly nice when you are breathing around other people. It’s one thing to have garlic or onions making your mouth feel sour and smell bad, but if it’s coming directly from your teeth then that’s a problem. Making sure that you are brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, along with mouthwash throughout the day, will ensure that your teeth and your breath smell nice.
  • People will want to kiss you. Nobody wants to kiss somebody with food between their teeth or with Celebrex, and brushing is the best and most effective way to remove the food and bacteria causing those smells.
  • You will reduce your chance of a heart attack. Did you know that gum issues are also linked to your heart and diabetes? If you don’t brush your teeth and look after your gums, you could cause yourself some really bad problems over time.
  • You reduce the chance of gum disease. Gingivitis is caused by the plaque buildup around your teeth. The gums swell and start to recede and the teeth bleed when you brush them. Plaque is the accumulation of food and bacteria and it does happen to everybody’s mouth. You just have to keep on top of it.
