The fact is, if we do not focus on ourselves, then we run the risk of many negative things happening to us. They usually end up in some preventable illness or a family or friendship circle breakdown. That is because lack of self-care is associated with a lot of stress and this can reap havoc in so many areas of your life. So. let’s have a look at a few ways you can practice self-care.
Time Out
One of the best ways to avoid burnout and reduce stress is to take some time out. Perhaps you have difficulty finding the time to do this, but it is essential. If you really are struggling for time, maybe you need to make the most of the time that you have by performing a meditation, mindfulness technique. These can generally reduce your stress levels and help you prioritize your life. You may need to take a look at some of the things that you do too, and start eliminating a few from your life. Helping with events, doing favors for other people at work, quickly nipping here and there, generally being a dogsbody need to stop. Learn to say no to the non-essential things in your life that take up time, and you will feel the stress dissolve.
Exercise
Exercise is essential for increasing your well-being and becoming happier. There are many reasons why this is true. The stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline are actually targeted and reduced by exercise. Additionally, dopamine and serotonin are increased. These are known as the happy chemical. Many pharmaceutical anti-depressants are designed to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain, so it is clearly an important chemical in combating depression. Another great advantage of exercise is that it enhances your ability to feel pleasure as endorphins are released while you exercise too.
Treats
You have to treat yourself every now and again. You don’t have to be a martyr and do everything for someone else. You have to have balance in your life. Without balance, you will tip over into the realm of struggling and losing self-confidence. A treat lets you know that you are worth it, and it works both in the conscious and the subconscious sphere. Treats can come in different forms, from a gift such as a handbag, or a new car from one of those car dealerships that attract you, or a spa day, and a massage. Whatever you enjoy, you need to indulge a little and let the stresses and strains of life melt away.
Talk to Someone
It is important that you air tour grievances when they occur. If you are struggling with something about your partner, let them know. They are not mind-readers. Alternatively, find a good friend to confide in, or even a counselor. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel if you let the things you have been bottling up inside you out.
