Getting outside is something we always want our kids to be able to do. We don’t want them stuck indoors, especially now we’re dealing with a pandemic, and we definitely don’t want them attached to a screen all day! But what can you do to encourage them to have more of a wild spirit? After all, you feel like you’ve tried everything, and the kids have just gotten bored and given up.
Well, all it takes is a bit of inspiration; we’ve listed some ideas below for you that might just get your family going again. If you’ve got a garden, get out into it, because giving your child more room to play is never a bad thing!
Create a Food Space
Kids love a snack, there’s no doubt about that! And if you want them to be outside a bit more, create a space for eating and enjoy some company in your garden. It’s easy to do if you’ve got a bit of lawn or a patio.
Set up a table, or even just a picnic blanket, for two simple ideas here. But if you’re a big foodie yourself, building or buying your own outdoor pizza oven/permanent barbecue area will work wonders!
Not only do you make space to eat under the sun, but you’ve got the chance to host more cookouts or family BBQs for everyone to enjoy. Now that’s something the whole family will pester you to do more of!
Personalize Your Gaming Equipment
Personalizing your gaming equipment is a good way to encourage kids to play more physical games, simply because it’s made for them and there’s a unique sense to the items.
For example, if you and your family love a game of cornhole, why not get personalized bags with each member’s name on them? Feel free to learn more here about adding some style to your future games.
And not only that, you could also play a game of ‘Kick the Can’ with cans that have been painted by the kids themselves. Or if none of these games are for you, you can simply buy some different colored bats and rackets for people to use!
New Toys
Children love getting new things to play with. If they have a birthday coming up and the weather will be brightening up, it may be worth investing in some new garden equipment. Children can become bored rather quickly if they have the same things to play with. This can discourage them from spending time in the garden. When it comes to getting garden toys for the children, the list is endless. You could get a trampoline, a sand pit, and a pool to name a few. If you already have these then how about a playhouse? You can get some amazing playhouse kits to create your own playhouse for your children. You can give your children endless hours of fun with a playhouse and it will encourage their imaginations.
Join in!
As a parent, you have the most power in setting a good example. And while it’s easy to send the kids out into the garden while you get to have a quiet coffee and some time on your phone inside, it won’t help to encourage this free spirited behavior.
So get out there with them. Play games with them, sit and eat with them, and make sure to take active part in anything else they get up to. It’s nice to just sit and watch while you enjoy the sun, but sometimes you’ve got to get down on your knees alongside them in the dirt to make sure the kids have fun!
Encouraging the kids to get outside a bit more can be easy. Just make it a fun and attractive space.
