Have you ever been invited to a business meeting but had no clue what you were supposed to bring with you? You wouldn’t be alone in that. Business meetings – even if you are the one in charge – can be boring. No one wants to spend their time sitting around a table listening to jargon, right? You need to make sure that you are equipped, though, especially if you are meeting outside clients.
Business meetings are the most boring necessity anyone can go on, but with the right equipment you are going to get through it in one piece. For example, you should never attend a client business meeting without Keller Williams business cards to show off your credentials, and you should never go to a business meeting without something to write on. You need to make sure that you get everything you can out of it. Here are five things that you should always bring to a business meeting:
- Breath mints. Are you planning to talk in this meeting? If you’re going to be chatting, then that coffee breath you’ve got going on is going to be noticeable. Breath mints just as the meeting begins and then when others are speaking are a great idea. Don’t bother with gum, though. You won’t be able to spit it out discreetly.
- Tissues. Whether you have a cough or you are sneezing is irrelevant, so having tissues is a good idea. Tissues should be in a packet, though, not already balled up in your sleeve.
- Extra pens. You can bring notepads and paper with you, but don’t forget your pen. You need to take notes because the minutes of the meeting won’t always be exactly to your needs. Make a point of bringing extra pens just in case they’re not provided in the meeting. You should have extra paper with you and if there is a presentation going on, print off those presentation slides and put your notes all over them.
- Post-it Notes. You can never go wrong with a supply of these and they can be very helpful in noting areas of a presentation that need to be revisited or queried later. Notes like this are super helpful for others who might run out, too. If clients run out, you can ensure that you swoop in to the rescue.
- The right clothes. If you are heading into a meeting and it’s last minute, always have a tie in your pocket (for the guys) and a set of good shoes in your desk (for the girls). You need to be equipped for this meeting and that means sartorially, too.
Business meetings may be boring but that doesn’t mean that you get to skip out, unfortunately! You should make sure that you are prepared and that means keeping all of these items on your desk so that you can ensure that you are ready if the meetings are last minute and you don’t get much of a warning in them.
