THIS MONTH’S BOX
THAILAND
Between the colorful vegetables and bold chilies from street markets, and the harmonious marriage of these flavors in the kitchen, Thai cuisine is a symphony of complex tastes, colors, and textures. Curated by Chef Jet Tila, the Thailand Box offers a glimpse into the incredible culinary heritage of this country.
I am absolutely excited to have recieved this box! now let’s talk about what all was in this amazing box of goodies!
First item I recieved was:
coconut crispy rolls which I have inserted a picture below. i was pleseantly surprised to be able to taste the distinct taste of coconut. They are absolutely delicious and I would buy them if I could find them at a store near me. They are crunchy and sweet but not overly sweet.
Next item I recieved was taro chips. Which I have inserted a picture of below. Now I know you are asking yourself what is taro? Well allow me to answer that question for you! Taro, or Colocasia esculenta, is a starchy edible tuber cultivated in many tropical nations. Because of its similarity to the potato, it is sometimes called the “potato of the tropics.” It is also known as kalo in Hawaiian, and as dasheen in some other parts of the world. For many indigenous peoples, taro played a crucial nutritional role in their historical diets, serving as a major staple food. These people brought varieties of it with them as they adventured, distributing the root throughout the world. I personally would rather have these taro chips then a greasy potato chip! They are delicious!
The next item I recieved in my try the world box was soft dried jackfruit. Again you may be asking Kimberly what is jackfruit? Well I will answer that for you. Jackfruitis the largest tree-borne fruit in the world — one fruit can weigh between 10 and 100 pounds and contain hundreds of seeds that are rich in protein, potassium, calcium, and iron — all of which are important for bodily growth. To be honest with you I was a little scared to try this at first since I didn’t know what jackfruit was but I tried it and it was actually pretty good it wasn’t overly sweet it had just enough sweetness. I would definitely work this into my sweets cabinet as a treat.
The next item I recieved in my box was coconut flower syrup, which I have inserted a picture of below. Again I know what is coconut flower syrup? Coconut nectar is a sucrose based sweetener and thus a healthy alternative for people with fructose sensitivities. It can be used as a natural sweetener in tea, coffee, baking recipes, in cooking, as a syrup over pancakes, toast or ice cream, in raw food desserts, in smoothies and in juices. I put this amazing syrup on toast and on my sons pancakes and it was delicious on both! Hen I had the bright idea to dip the coconut rolls that were also in the box in it and it was insane that it brought out so much flavor!
This next thing I recieved in my box was jamberry rice! Jasberry is a variety of rice grown to be consumed whole and unprocessed. Unlike polished white ricethat undergoes processes to remove the husk and bran, the most nutritious parts of the harvested whole grain. I will definitely be using this amazing rice in the rice pudding recipe that they have included!
next I recieved thai iced tea. i have included a picture below.
i highly suggest you check out this amazing subscription box! Try something different and emerce yourself in a different culture! I can promise you that you will not be disappointed. Check them out at
