Domestic violence is a very real and serious issue that 1 in 4 women will deal with in their lifetime. It’s easy to ignore the signs and ignore the issue but when will we finally band together to take a stand against domestic violence? These women need to know that there is a way out and they are strong enough to get out. How? It starts with each and every one of us raising awareness.
I have heard so many times where the one being abused wants to leave but fear takes hold. Not only because they are afraid to leave, but in many cases, they don’t have the financial resources or anywhere else to go. They feel trapped and helpless so they stay and deal with it. Domestic Violence doesn’t have to continue and if you know someone who may be a victim, you can help ensure that they aren’t financially trapped in an abusive relationship by joining the Purple Purse Challenge. Open your heart and wallet to stand up for survivors and the organizations that serve them at PurplePurse.com.
The Allstate Foundation has invest more than half a million of dollars into the Purple Purse challenge. They have distributed purple purse charms so you can clip it to your favorite purse to help raise awareness and show your support. I have proudly attached mine to my purse and it’s displayed everywhere I go. It also serves as a reminder that you never know who may cross your path that may be going through this issue. I too can make a difference and do my part for women just like me.
If you or someone you know needs immediate help, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224. Let’s help put a stop to domestic violence once and for all!
