Saving For Summer Activities

One thing I wanted to do more of this year was traveling with my kids, especially this summer. I have always been a person that loves to be indoors at home, but things have changed since I had kids. They want to play outside and go places that I have not been able to afford in the past. I plan on doing everything with the kids this summer and decided nothing is going to stop me. I have never even thought to look into different options for current accounts we have with our bank until recently. Why let the kids suffer and not have the most enjoyable summer ever? Since money has been an issue, my best option is to put money aside in a separate bank account and use that specifically for trips and fun outings for the family. That way we get to enjoy doing things together without having to worry about financial hardship. Everything will be planned out and budgeted based on what we have saved up in that one account.

It’s never too late to start putting funds aside for future activities. The way I see it, if you don’t start now, chances are you never will. My kids are young, so they count on me to make things happen. I figure, even if I can only put $5 aside each week, that is something I can build on. Places like Six Flags, Dorney Park, and Hershey Park can truly add up for a family of five. Putting that money aside early in a separate bank account will take off some of the stress of me as an adult and help the kids get the most out of their summer. Continuing to save the same way will also help me when school rolls back around. I have three girls and everything is added triple for class trips and pictures. It can be a financial burden on myself and their dad. It doesn’t hurt to compare current accounts online from your bank and see what else they have to offer for things like this.

I have a long list of places to go, starting with Six Flags for my brother’s birthday. I see it being loads of fun and the girls having a ball spending time with their Uncle. Money won’t be an issue because I am securing money now for an event that is over a month away. Keeping my peace of mind and knowing the kids won’t miss out puts a huge smile on my face. I love doing things as a family!!

What are some fun things you and your family have planned for this summer and/or how do you save up for them?
