What is one thing that you have a lot of in your home? For me it is DVD’s. Over the last eight years, my husband and I have purchased and accumulated over 700 DVD’s. This is one of the first things that we packed up before we moved to the new house and can you guess what we are still unpacking over a week later? We have so many that we don’t even know where to put them. I can’t even imagine how much money we’ve spent over the years purchasing them. Even at just $5 a piece that’s $3500. I know that we spent a lot more on the majority of them but that’s just a guess at the lowest priced DVD. If I were to sell DVD’s online or at a store i wonder how much we would wind up getting. I’d rather not part with them, but it kind of feels like the right thing to do. I know I wouldn’t get rid of all of them but truly need to eliminate some of the ones we don’t even watch.
What would you do if you had as many DVD’s as I have? Maybe you do and if so, what do you use as storage. In our old home we had two DVD shelves, an entertainment center, and a closet full. One of the shelves broke in the process of moving and the closets in our new place are not in a convenient spot to store them. I have been thinking about getting a tall bookshelf from our local Walmart or Ikea to hold them all in one place. The kids can probably keep the other shelf that we have for their own DVD collection in their room. I have even thought about renting them out to friends and family for $1 per week. It would be cheaper than Redbox and would help give us a return in our investment. So… To sell or not to sell DVD’s?

I was kind of in the same situation with VCR tapes. At one time I had hundreds. I ended up giving them with my VCR to a neighbor kid who didn’t have cable. She loved them and really got into some of the old movies, too. I now have about 200 DVD’s. I keep some favorites in their cases, but the rest I keep in CD albums. They can hold 150 DVD’s in the same space as 6 or 7 in their cases.
