Real Peanut Butter in Fantastic Flavors

pbIn this day and age, peanut butter is starting to be less about the peanuts and more about the additives to cut costs.  Peanut butter has been a staple in many homes for ages, and now you have to be worried that the peanut butter you sneak to your pets could kill them.  All because of additives and sweeteners added.  Thanks to Peanut Butter & Co, you don’t have to worry about artificial preservatives, or high fructose corn syrups sneaking their way into your food.  They have a firm stance against such nonsense.

Peanut Butter & Co. started off as a Peanut Butter Sandwich shop in Greenwich Village in New York, brain child of Lee Zalben.  The fun sandwich ideas, which included The Elvis and the Pregnant Lady got business in the door.  From there people wanted to bring his delicious peanut butter home to enjoy on their own time.  And from those humble beginnings, Peanut Butter & Co can be found in nearly every supermarket and small market from the US to Japan.  They have flavors that go from the original to the eclectic like The Heat is on, and Dark Chocolate Dreams (my personal favorite.)  9 flavors of their peanut butters are certified as non-GMO and gluten-free AND certified Kosher.  Dairy Free and Soy Free, these peanut butters are great for people who may be suffering with some allergies, although of course those with peanut allergies should steer clear.   They don’t use granulated sugar or corn syrup, but instead sweeten a few flavors of their peanut butter with dried cane sugar, which is unrefined.

Recently they have come out with some delicious peanut butter powders, which is a GREAT way to add protein to your diet in a great tasting alternative to some of the other powders out there.  Just a scoop or two and you can make a fantastic Peanut Butter and Jelly smoothie!  In our house, snacks with peanut butter are common place.  IMAG0232The Mighty Maple butter was my son’s favorite smeared on sticks of celery.  While my daughter and I both go bananas over Dark Chocolate Dreams on granny smith apples.  My husband is a purest and loves to just dunk pretzel sticks in the tradition Smooth Operator.   You can’t go wrong with a healthy snack when it involves peanut butter!  Kids and Adults love it and you can feel good serving it up.     And every Tuesday – a food blogger comes in and posts a recipe using peanut butter.  A great way to experience peanut butter in more than you are used to!

Peanut Butter & Co stands by sustainability and I wanted to include this blurb from their website which may put people’s minds at ease when they see Palm Oil as an ingredient in a couple of the jars:

We use a very small amount of palm fruit oil to stabilize 8 of our 10 varieties of peanut butter. Palm fruit oil keeps the peanut oil from separating in the jar. It is a healthier option than the partially hydrogenated vegetable oil that many mass market brands of peanut butter use to stabilize their products.

We are aware that a recent worldwide increase in demand for palm products has resulted in rainforest deforestation in Indonesia and loss of habitat for the native orangutan population.

The palm fruit oil that is used in Peanut Butter & Co. products comes from Malaysia. Sustainability is a primary concern for our supplier, who is in fact one of the founding members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO is comprised of governments, palm growers, palm oil users, and non-governmental organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund. Its goal is the preservation of the natural environment in a sustainable way that also permits reasonable growth of palm oil plantations that support local populations. For more information about the RSPO please visit their website www.rspo.org

We also take the additional step of ensuring that 100% of our purchases of palm fruit oil lead to more sustainable production through the Green Palm program. For more information about Green Palm please visit their website www.greenpalm.org
