~  In honor of those we have lost to breast cancer and our survivors. RIP Aunt Lil ~

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is such an honor to work with Shespeaks to help spread the word about the P&G Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Ladies, it is so important to get ourselves checked early on and regularly especially since 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. This is an eye opener for me since I have 9 sisters of my own and this disease could affect any one of us in this alarming statistic. Early detection is one of the best defenses against breast cancer and gives a higher survival rate. Actually when detected during the early localized stage, the five year survival rate is 98 percent. I know first hand how cancer can affect your loved ones and is a disease I wouldn’t want anyone to go through.

This year, the P&G Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign has partnered with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to not only educate women, but also the men in their lives, about the importance of early detection. We can all work together, both men and women to help put an early detection plan in place. Along with early detection, it’s all about a strong support system. Visit http://www.pgeveryday.com/bca to hear P&G employees’ inspiring stories about moments made possible in their lives due to early detection and download the NBCF’s Early Detection Plan App, available throughout the month of October.

About P&G’s Contribution to the National Breast Cancer Foundation
The 2013 P&G Breast Cancer Awareness campaign will help save lives by making a $500,000 donation to The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). Since 2008, P&G has donated more than $2.1MM to the NBCF to help save lives through early detection awareness and education. More than 80 percent of all donations to the NBCF go to programs that benefit women. It means a lot that P&G is making every effort to support those affected by breast cancer. Follow P&G on facebook and twitter for more information.

By getting checked with a yearly mammogram, by doing your own breast exams at home, by passing out pamphlets on how to test your breasts at home, to encourage people that if they feel the smallest difference in their breast not to just ignore it get it checked, most times its nothing but better safe then sorry. the sooner detection is better.

Awareness is what it’s all about. I am due for a mammogram now, and will be making my appointment very soon. I also promote breast self checks and annual exams!

  4. Karanna Meyers says

Always check yourself, monthly and also go to your yearly checkups and mammograms if 40 and older or high risk.

  5. Mary Cloud says

  6. Jane Ritz says

Do your monthly self exams. Keep up with mammograms. If you are at high risk, fight with your insurance to get them as recommended by your doctor. If you feel a lump, go to the doctor. If the doctor doesn’t recommend some kind of action, go to another doctor. It’s your life your fighting for. Support people with breast cancer in any way you can. Support breast cancer research…Yes, my Mom died of breast cancer at age 59. That was 26 years ago. I miss her dearly.

Get the word out on how and where people can go to get tested. And tell us what to expect during a mammogram so it’s not so scary!

  8. Dorrie Turner says

To fight this battle have self exams, and remind your female love ones to check themselves monthly and get their yearly mammogram when they need them. Also to educate people to prevention, support treatment, and help fund or support charity work for the fund.

  9. Kim Kihega says

By providing more education, encouraging women to get them, and offering them free would likely increase awareness and prevention

  10. Jill Myrick says

I help defend by having a yearly mammogram and encouraging others to do the same.

Creating better awareness for young women. My sister was 28 when diagnosed and 31 when she passed. It was to late for her. There was no family history. This can happen to anyone no matter what age. She thought she had a lump when she was 21 and the Dr. told her it was probably just fatty tissue and not to worry she was to young. Surprise 28 stage 4 to late. Even if thought to be just fatty tissue get it checked better to be safe than sorry. She left behind 5 children ages 6-13.

By instructing ppl to perform self breast exams, see the gynecologist once yearly because they do bse’s as well, also, ppl who are of a certain age need to get mammograms done and promote awareness to their family, friends and loved ones..

  15. Rebecca HM says

By continuing research, bringing awareness, and providing early screenings. As well as letting women know that they need to self check regularly, and to be aware that it can happen at any age. Young or older.
